Douglas V. Johnson was born in 1900 and graduated from Virginia Military Institute (VMI)in 1922. He served in the Virginia National Guard (1922-1923); was commissioned 2nd lieutenant of field artillery, United States (U.S.) Army, in 1923 and advanced through the grades to major general in 1955. He served in various assignments in the U.S. and the Philippines (1923-1942); operations division, War Dept.
